Here is an article that the Chicoutimi News paper did on me about my arrival to work here with Wendigo Studios. English translation included.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------3D Artist from Ontario:Price prefers
Chicoutimi to California
CHICOUTIMI – He is 24
years old, a specialist in his domain and has 2 diplomas to prove it: one in
fine arts at Fanshawe College in Ontario,
the other from Humber College in Toronto
in 3D Animation. Ever since he was young, he has been a video game
maniac. He had interviews in California
for a 3D artist position but the cost of living is so high that in the end he
declined the offer to instead head towards… Chicoutimi. This little story is that of Reid Price, a young man native to London Ontario.
The uni-lingual Anglophone arrived in Sauguenay on April 1st, to
work for Wendigo Studios, a company specializing in the conception and
development of 3D video games. “I had two
weeks to make a decision. I liked the challenge this job opportunity
offered me. Furthermore, I have always wanted to learn French. This
is a superb opportunity for me and I have full intention of taking advantage of
it” says he who creates, between other tasks, the textures and objects in
the game Xsled Hillclimb, which Wendigo Studios hopes to complete a prototype
by this summer. Although the job greatly
resembles what he is used to, Reid admits he was astonished by the city.
“All I knew about Chicoutimi
was the Sagueneens (QHL). I did some research before I arrived, but I did
not expect such beautiful landscapes. I cross the Dubuc bridge every
morning and the Saguenay
River and the downtown
view impresses me every time. It would be nice to stay here, the
adaptation will certainly be easier once I am good at French. For now, I
am taking a course at Laure-Conan school” explains the man who is a
self-described unconditional fan of the Montreal Canadiens, even though no
family link has been confirmed between him and Carey Price. The Director
of Wendigo Studios, Eric Trudel, could not be any happier to have Reid Price in
his ranks. “He is of great value to our enterprise. Through his
educational training, he is able to see problems from a different
perspective. Our next hire is French and came to study video games at BAC
in Chicoutimi, a program unique to Quebec. We
are certainly always happy to engage local employees, but it is equally
interesting to recruit employees with varying backgrounds. It is good,
especially in our field, to be open to the world…” finishes the entrepreneur.
