The Future Looks Bright - Its incredible how fast things can change.  At Wendigo, we were going through very real times of uncertainty.  Things were not looking so good for a while, and now, things look great for the companies future.  We have partnered with Zig Zag Island, a studio based in France.  Now X Sled Hillclimb will be put on hold as we will be creating 9 titles within a year!  7 titles for the DS and 2 for the Wii.  Furthermore, we will be hiring at least twenty new employees and will also be expanding our office to also occupy the empty office space below us.  So cool, things are really moving.  Can't wait to work on DS and Wii titles.  So much learning to do!

Montreal International Game Summit -
Just last week I attended MIGS '08 (see some crappy photos here).  What a great event full of interesting keynotes, talks specific to many catagories related to gaming, and many intimate round table discussions.  I attended many talks, of as varied a background as possible.  I sat in on talks and joined round table disscussions about art in games, stylised art, artistic direction, writing for games, studio start up tips, music for games, and even outsourcing practices.  The information was so valuable, and many talks were  about the integrity of art in gaming and has really got my mind working.  Was great to see some people sharing the same views as me (or similar views) on what needs to be done to make this field more, 'real' and appreciated.  But I won't get into that here because I could start talking forever.

Site Overhaul - Well, September is here and I'm currently putting the site through a major overhaul.  Everything is being revamped in an effort to bring you a more enjoyable, easy to access experience.  I have separated my 3d portfolio into two sections; professional and personal. I've also organised my traditional art  work into several categories, a tutorial section is in the works, which will cover theories, practices and topic discussions.  The doodads sections contains an about me section, a newspaper article on myself and a news archive section.  Thanks for stopping by and have a sweet ass day! :)

Crunch Time - We have been working our asses off at Wendigo in an effort to finish a prototype version of our X Sled Hillclimb game for July 31st.  Serious crunch time but we are almost there!  Here are some screenshots of our work thus far.  The game is coming along but still has a long ways to go.  I've really embraced the opportunity I've had here to spread my wings and wear a few different hats in order to complete important tasks like preparing the elements for our now logo intro (I learned a lot about particle simulation in Maya for this).  Also I learned a lot about Ncloth in Maya for flag simulation for use of the flapping flags on the new start gate (which I designed) for the game.  Now I am in the process of learning  how to prepare the art assets for importation into the engine and I will also be taking on some level design initiative which is very sweet.  I am mainly going to be tweaking and fleshing out any problems with the levels as well as offering input and opinion on level design.
I have also done some freelance work  lately (man I've been busy!).  The latest being an air boat racing game.  Check out some links to some games I've modeled the cars for. Speed Racer.  CrashersHot Wheels Beast Bash Beware.  Unfortunately the Speed Racer game cars that I worked on have  been removed except for one due to licence expiration reasons but here is a YouTube link to a video of the game play.

Times Of Change- Well its been a few months and a lot has changed. I've got a new job with Wendigo Studios as a 3d Artist. They are a game development studio based in Chicoutimi, Quebec (beautiful place).   I've been here since April 1st and it has been great so far!  I'm all settled into my apartment, I'm working hard in a beautiful new studio and trying to learn French.  Shortly after my arrival the newspaper did an article on me and my arrival!  I have posted the article (and English translation from French) here.  The article title makes me laugh, I was just saying how nice it is here and they go and say I prefer it over California.  Well I guess in certain aspects I do.  Also the Speed Racer game I modeled and textured cars for has been released.  You can play it here.
